Antarctica: The Results of the Cruise Season – 2024

Miami, FL, March 27, 2025

Poseidon Expeditions, a leading polar expedition cruise operator specializing in small-ship expedition cruises in remote polar regions, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 11th Antarctic cruise season.

This Antarctic summer brought us many unforgettable moments, and Poseidon Expeditions conducted 11 exhilarating cruises from October to March, each one a dream come true for our travelers. We explored the farthest reaches of the Earth, taking travelers on journeys along classic polar routes to the Antarctic Peninsula and calling at the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. Once-in-a-season trip to the extreme South was also undertaken.

This time, after crossing the Southern Arctic Circle, we spent three full days in the extreme southern latitudes, feeling like true explorers. We reached Marguerite Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in Antarctica, and landed on Red Rock Ridge, one of the southernmost points where a continental landing is generally possible. This achievement impressed the cruise participants so much that one of them later got a memorable tattoo with the coordinates of the point where he was lucky enough to visit.

There, in Marguerite Bay, on Stonington Island, we had real wedding ceremony, which was legitimized by one of the passengers. A celebration was set against a backdrop of fantastic landscapes, imbued with the spirit of adventure.

For the first time, our Sea Spirit expedition vessel reached the Coronation Island in the remote archipelago of the South Orkney Islands. The cruise participants landed in Shingle cove, one of the places allowed to visit in the protected natural area of Antarctica, where snow petrels breed.

We traveled among drifting icebergs, observing whales and killer whales. Crossed the Lemaire Channel under the polar sunset which amazed even experienced guides. We reached the Antarctic peninsula and landed on the shore and islands to admire the landscapes, observe wildlife, and took hikes in wilderness.

We visited the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Shetland Islands, and celebrated New Year's Eve 2025 at Neko Harbor, overlooking the glaciers of Antarctica. We saw many sea leopards, thousands of penguins, albatrosses and other inhabitants of these harsh latitudes.

During our November cruise, we explored the caldera of a dormant volcano on Deception Island using Zodiac boats. This boat trip in such special place was an exceptional opportunity and became an amazing experience not only for cruise participants but also for the entire expedition team.

In addition, four times we spent unforgettable nights under the Antarctic starry sky, camping for our guests. The feeling of the grandeur of nature, combined with the comfort provided by the expedition team, has created a unique experience of immersion and unity with the outside world.

Almost four hundred of our brave travelers ventured to take polar plunge in the crystal-clear waters of Antarctica. These unforgettable moments became a symbol of the courage and adventurous spirit inherent in those who choose to travel with Poseidon Expeditions to the amazing White Continent.
