SERGEY SHIROKIY - Expedition Leader
Sergey was born in northern Russia and studied history at the University of Archangelsk. After he became interested in tourism, he continued his education in Norway, earning a master’s degree in tourist studies at the Arctic University of Tromsø, in 2015. Sergey participated in the US Department of State “International Visitor Leadership Program of Environmental Outreach and Eco-Tourism.” From 2011 until 2017 he worked as senior ecological education expert and head of tourism for the largest Russian nationalpark, “Russian Arctic.” As a member of expedition teams and as polar-bear guard aboard various expedition ships and icebreakers, he has made dozens of trips to the remote Russian archipelago of Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya, as well as to the High Arctic up to the geographic North Pole and via the North East Passage. In 2017 he moved to the small Russian settlement of Barentsburg in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. In 2018 Sergey returned to the mainland and started working on expedition vessels as a guide
