Getting a taste of adventure: 24 hours aboard the Sea Spirit

Portsmouth, U.K. – May 6, 2025

Poseidon Expeditions welcomed over 59 travel partners from around the world to Portsmouth, U.K., aboard the iconic expedition ship Sea Spirit for its annual partner event held from May 5 to 6. Coinciding with the launch of the Arctic cruise season, the event offered attendees an immersive 24-hour experience aboard the expedition vessel Sea Spirit.

The event gave participants the unique opportunity to tour the Sea Spirit’s interior, see its modern amenities and spacious cabins, and get a hands-on experience of life aboard. In addition, the gathering gave travel professionals the opportunity to meet Poseidon Expeditions’ team, get inspired learning about upcoming polar cruises, and exchange best practices and updates related to polar tourism, while experiencing first-hand the ship’s service, comfort and camaraderie.

“As CEO and Co-Founder of Expedition Cruise Network Ltd., it’s my job—and passion—to truly understand the expedition cruise sector. That understanding doesn’t just come from reading brochures or hosting webinars, but is built through years of immersing myself in the industry, working briefly onboard an expedition ship and staying curious. But most importantly, it comes from first-hand experience,” said Akvile Marozaite, CEO and Co-Founder of Expedition Cruise Network Ltd.

With a capacity of just 114 guests, the Sea Spirit was not only the perfect venue for this year’s partner event, but also offers the best expedition cruise experience for polar travelers. The vessel is purpose-built for small-scale expedition cruising in the Arctic and Antarctica. Its compact size provides access to remote landing sites, where all passengers can disembark simultaneously—maximizing time ashore without splitting into groups. The ship also carries a fleet of Zodiac boats for landings and excursions, along with sea kayaks for adventure seekers.

“She might be small, but the ship has extremely powerful engines and propellers, a re-enforced hull and newly-fitted stabilizers that are put to use when the ship runs into rougher seas, such as the Drake Passage. Built in a shipyard in Italy, the stabilizers ensure guests have one of the smoothest journeys to and from Antarctica,” marveled Hugh Clayson, Veloso Tours.

On board, guests enjoy gourmet dining, spacious cabins, a lecture hall, polar library and a 24-hour coffee and tea station. During days at sea, a team of expert guides hosts educational lectures and workshops on polar history, geology, photography and wildlife.

“Stepping aboard the Sea Spirit was oddly nostalgic. There is a warmth to the Sea Spirit, think polished wood panels, mirrored accents and a layout that invites easy movement. Cabins are impressively spacious, with ample storage across all categories, and outdoor access is exceptional – crucial for real-time engagement with the surrounding wilderness,” recalled Akvile Marozaite.

Guests also had the chance to meet members of Poseidon Expeditions’ corporate and expedition teams, including expedition leader Huw Lewis-Jones, whose humor and expertise showcased the passion that drives the company’s polar journeys. Poseidon Expeditions demonstrated how team spirit and passion for polar travel create a unique cruise experience, as well as a memorable and engaging event for travel partners.

“Wow – what a team! The 14 expert guides are so friendly and knowledgeable. Once aboard, they are key to your understanding and enjoyment of your destination, running daily lectures and briefings on history, birds, wildlife, geography, etc. Several of the guides are well-known in their fields as published authors, professors and lecturers,” explained Hugh Clayson, Veloso Tours.

The event also marked the official start of Poseidon Expeditions’ 2025 Arctic season, offering cruises to Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, Jan Mayen and the British Isles.
