The Sea Spirit's State-of-the-Art Stabilizers

Poseidon Expeditions’ 114-passenger vessel Sea Spirit is equipped with modern retractable fin stabilizers designed to improve comfort during voyages in the polar regions.

In May 2019, during a scheduled dry dock in Lisbon, Portugal, ahead of the 2019 Arctic season, the vessel was retrofitted with Rolls-Royce Zero Speed Stabilizers.

The stabilizers are designed to reduce roll both while Sea Spirit is underway and when the vessel is drifting or at anchor. When not in use, the fins can be fully retracted into the hull, which is particularly important for navigation in ice-covered waters.

The system was also developed to reduce vibration and noise and with environmental considerations in mind, making it well suited to operations in sensitive polar regions.

The installation of the stabilizers was an important part of Sea Spirit’s technical upgrades, helping to provide passengers with a smoother and more comfortable experience during expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Alongside these technical improvements, more than $2.5 million has also been invested in refurbishing Sea Spirit’s passenger areas, including cabins and public spaces.
