The announcement was made at the international travel conference, ITB Berlin. The company also released information on early booking discounts and other enhancements for passengers and travel agents.
In making the announcement, company President Nikolay Saveliev said, “Our second year of bringing top-quality adventure cruising to the marketplace offers some great opportunities. New Arctic itineraries, attractive rates and early booking savings make the Sea Spirit an excellent choice for those looking for great value aboard a deluxe polar expedition ship.”

Poseidon will offer a wide range of Arctic cruises, beginning with programs from Iceland to West Greenland in May 2016. This will be followed by cruises to Svalbard, Franz Josef Land – and new for summer 2016 – Novaya Zemlya in the Russian High Arctic. Considered Europe’s northeastern-most corner, Novaya Zemlya provides intrepid travelers the chance to experience wildlife in a unique Arctic ecosystem that is rarely visited by expedition vessels.
2016 Arctic rates for the all-suite Sea Spirit begin at just $6,195 per person double occupancy and are even less in the ship’s spacious Triple Suites: $4,895 per person.
Best Value in Antarctica in Luxury Expedition Ship Category
Following the Arctic season, the vessel will then position to South America to commence a series of expedition cruises to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands during the 2016-17 austral summer season.
Newly announced prices for Poseidon’s Antarctic cruises compare favorably with the company’s 2015-16 rates, and offer some of the best values in the luxury expedition ship category. 2016-17 rates begin at just $5,995 per person in a Triple Suite and $7,695 in a double-occupancy Main Deck Suite.
For both the Arctic and Antarctic seasons, travel agents and consumers can take advantage of early booking savings of 10%-15% from regular rates. These savings will be available through September 2015.
For 2016-17, Poseidon has also reduced the price for single occupancy of Superior Suites to 1.7x the double-occupancy rate, and will make more Classic Suites or Triple suites available, depending on demand from customers looking for more availability in these categories.
Built in 1991 as the Renaissance V, the ship sailed for a decade in Alaska and worldwide as the popular Spirit of Oceanus. She underwent technical improvements for polar cruising in 2010, and has been providing expedition cruises in both the Arctic and Antarctic environments as Sea Spirit the past five years.
Sea Spirit offers all-suite accommodations, a restaurant that can accommodate all passengers in one seating, a well-stocked library, comfortable multi-purpose presentation lounges for educational programming and entertainment, and ample outdoor deck space to enjoy the passing scenery. Activities are directed by a team of experienced polar guides and educators, and include Zodiac excursions, hiking ashore and optional kayaking and camping, along with informative presentations aboard. The ship’s staff-to-passenger ratio of 1:10 is one of the best in the business.
Poseidon Expeditions takes safe and environmentally responsible polar travel seriously, and is a member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO). It also actively supports the efforts of Polar Bears International and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
